Kundalini Express
Kundalini in the idea of Dharma, refers to a form of primal energy or shakti said to be located at the base of the vertebrae. Different spiritual customs teach ways of awakening kundalini for the purpose of reaching religious enlightenment and a variety of supernormal powers.
Writer Joseph Campbell details the idea of Kundalini as the body of the coiled female serpent a serpent goddess not of gross but of simple substance which is to be thought of as residing in a torpid, slumbering express in a understated center, the first of the seven, near to the foot of the spine the aim of the yoga exercise then being to rouse this serpent, lift up her head, and bring her up a simple nerve or channel of the vertebrae to the so called thousand petaled lotus Sahasrara at the crown of the head.

Kundalini awakening is said to result from deep meditation, and therefore enlightenment and bliss.

Many systems of yoga give attention to awakening Kundalini through yoga, pranayama respiration, the practice of asana and chanting of mantras. In physical conditions, the Kundalini experience is frequently reported to be a feeling of electric energy running across the spine.
